Pillar 1

Cultivating Academic Opportunities

About this Pillar

From ninth grade to senior year, from students to teachers, and across every discipline, everyone at Govs has the opportunity to find and follow their passions.

The Aspiration

We will create signature academic programs across all disciplines and levels.

From expanding the Visiting Professional Seminar Series to class-based programming, we’re designing new ways to continually engage students.

Action 1

Expand place-based and experiential learning courses.

We will expand our cutting-edge teaching and learning carried out in the Alfond Center to dive more deeply into the humanities.

Action 2

Design signature advanced courses for students.

We will craft innovative advanced courses in each discipline that are intentionally designed for students who seek out academic challenges.

Action 3

Develop courses taught by visiting professionals.

We will expand the Visiting Professional Seminar Series of cross-discipline courses taught by passionate professionals.

Action 4

Develop an off-campus experiential learning program.

We will develop experiential learning programming through faculty-led trips in which students can explore new places and interests.

Action 5

Design grade-specific programs.

For ninth-graders to seniors, we will create programs that focus on applying knowledge and empowering students to lead in the world.

– Gary Satow | Associate Academic Dean | History Teacher | Dorm head

When you are surrounded by people who think about challenging their students and finding new, innovative ways to teach, students can’t help but want to be better themselves.

The Aspiration

We will establish Govs as a leader in supporting faculty in their professional development.

Supporting our faculty goes beyond the classroom when it comes to professional development.

Action 1

Create new teaching and learning spaces.

We will create spaces that prioritize experiential learning, collaboration, and 21st-century technology that will inspire teachers and students alike to excel.

Action 2

Showcase innovative teaching practices.

By expanding our suite of professional development programs and having our faculty share their knowledge with teachers from around the world, we will position ourselves as a thought leader in secondary education.
